Welcome to Southern University Laboratory Virtual School (SULVS) — Louisiana’s only full-time, tuition-free K–12 online laboratory school. As an extension of both the traditional Southern University Laboratory School and the Southern University System, we combine academic excellence, innovative teaching, and flexible learning to meet the needs of today’s students and families.

  • A full-time virtual school allows students to attend school entirely online from home. Students receive instruction from certified teachers, follow a structured schedule, and complete coursework aligned with state standards.

  • Yes, our virtual program is part of the Southern University Laboratory School System and is fully accredited. Students meet the same graduation and curriculum requirements as traditional schools.

  • All classes are taught by state-certified, highly qualified teachers who are experienced in virtual instruction and trained to support online learners.

  • Enrollment is open to all students in grades K–12 who reside in Louisiana. Some students may be better suited to virtual learning than others; we recommend families attend an info session to learn more.

  • Students participate in a combination of live, teacher-led instruction (synchronous) and independent work (asynchronous). Attendance is taken daily, and students are expected to log in and actively participate.

  • Yes. Live instruction follows a set schedule, but students may complete some assignments on their own time depending on the grade level and course.

  • Our program features a rigorous, standards-aligned digital curriculum powered by K12. Students benefit from a blend of live, teacher-led instruction, hands-on learning projects, and interactive digital tools designed to support engagement and mastery at every grade level.

  • Yes. All students must participate in state-mandated assessments. These tests are administered in person at the student’s designated testing site to ensure compliance with state guidelines.
